A colleague told me about mail art a few weeks ago and I have finally found the time to do some research and be inspired. The following images are pieces of mail art by Riitta Ikonen and I think they are so inventive and exciting, I would love to receive something like this in the post! This is Riitta's website where you can see the full collection and read how this project started out: www.riittaikonen.com/projects/mail-art

Harry Potter Studio Tour - Costume workshop
I recently took a group of gifted and talented year 9 students to The Warner Brothers Harry Potter Studio Tour. We had a costume workshop which focused on characterisation, mood boards and design. We were lucky enough to get to see and feel the different fabrics used in actual costumes, we even got to see Harry's first costume at the beginning of The Philosopher's Stone. The practical activity gave the students the opportunity to design a costume for a character from a specific genre and they got attach samples from the actual remnants of HP costumes to their design. The tour itself was fantastic - full of amazing scenery, costumes and models used in the films, a great opportunity for the public to see how talented and creative the UK's film industry is!

Draw a Vermeer with just one line....
I have only just seen this fantastic advert for Faber-Castell pens, it is a truly clever and original idea and I wish I had the patience to create something like this.

Diamond Jubilee Souvenir Making @ Battersea Park
Here are some handmade souvenirs that I made at the Battersea Park Diamond Jubilee Festival today. A large tent had tables set up with lots of different creative and exciting things to make including cameos, sashes and crowns. There was an opportunity to embellish a second hand silk scarf which the organisers had silk screen printed the queens face on. Everything was free with the request that you made a donation to OXFAM. It was a real success and a hive of activity, thank you.
The tent has a facebook page which you can like: www.facebook.com/DiamondJubileeSouvenirToasting

Olympics Animation created by 600 school children
This is an amazing animation created at my school by students in year 7, 8 and 9 (age 11-14). Each student was given at least 3 frames which they drew on in their own individual way. The result is an incredibly exciting, vivid and entertaining animation which advertises the Olympics perfectly! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
